The club supplies all equipment needed for Sunday activities and carnivals. This includes boards which are available for the use of all registered Forster SLSC Nippers. The Age Managers and Coaches will allocate equipment for Sunday activities. This equipment needs to be treated with respect, washed and put away after use. Some Nippers will buy their own equipment or be allocated specific club equipment for competition.
9.15am - The day starts with children moving to their respective Age Group Flags and waiting for their Age Manager. During this time the Age Manager is attending a meeting to discuss the day’s activities and surf conditions.
9.30am - Children are to wear their coloured Age Group skull cap, pink fluro rash singlet, sun screen and a broad brim hat. All children are to have their attendance recorded by their Age Manager. If you arrive late and join the group on the beach you must report your child’s attendance to the Age Manager who will be identified by their Age Manager shirt.
9.40am - Under control of their Age Managers, and supervision of parents/guardians, children then take part in fun activities on the beach and in the water. Items taken with the children such as drink bottles, googles, towels etc are not to be left with age managers due to Covid restriction's. These items are the child's responsibility. Scheduled activities are noted on the Season Calendar but are subject to change dependant on beach conditions.
Under 6’s, 7’s and 8’s are encouraged to do water wades and water relays every week to learn how to negotiate shallow surf. These age groups also play lots of games in the sand and surf. When suitable the Under 8’s will also be introduced to surf swimming. The club has foam boards that are used for fun and experience under Age Manager Supervision.
Older age groups have regular beach, swimming and board activities most Sundays. Participation is not mandatory, by encouragement children are supported to participate to their potential. The club has senior members and coaches who will assist in the conduct and training of events, such as how to paddle a board or make a relay changes.
On certain days instruction will be given on surf awareness, surf safety and surf skills using the Surf Life Saving Education Program (Surf Ed). Children are required to have participated in the Surf Ed Program for their age group before the end of the season and as a requirement to take part in competition.
While Surf Ed is compulsory, competition is not. No child is forced to compete in any event which they are not trained, not capable of doing, or if the surf conditions are inappropriate.
On selected Sundays there will be carnivals and other events that the club competes in or hosts. Included are the local Lower North Coast carnivals, Country and State championships. On these carnival days the regular Sunday activities are sometimes cancelled. The season calendar will list these dates, but it is also important to check with the Age Manager, Club Noticeboard on the clubs Face Book page as planned dates and venues can change during the season.
Overall, the emphasis in Nippers is to have fun! Certain days are set-aside during the year where competition and training are suspended and the children just have fun in the water and on the beach. Nippers will usually finish by 11.00am.
If you are required to leave early you need to notify your child’s age manager.
