Forster SLSC Nippers Committee encourage all children, parents and club officials to adhere to the NSW Government’s commitment to building a safe, harassment free sporting environment for children as outlined in their Commitment to Good Sporting Behaviour report as well as our own Code of Conduct outlined below:
Remember children participate in sport for their enjoyment, not yours
Encourage children to participate, do not force them
Focus on the child’s efforts and performance and not on them winning or losing
Encourage children to play according to the rules and to settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence
Never ridicule or yell at a child for making a mistake or losing a competition
Remember that children learn best by following good examples
Support all efforts to remove verbal or physical abuse from the sporting arena
Show appreciation for volunteers, coaches, officials and administrators
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every young person regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
By being active members of the Forster Surf Life Saving Nippers program both you and your children have made an undertaking to follow this code of conduct at all times. Any breaches of the Code of Conduct will not be tolerated and should be brought to the attention of the JAC to be dealt with under the Forster SLSC disciplinary guidelines.
As a parent or guardian you are required to be at the beach at all times during Sunday activities.
Your child remains your responsibility. Medication, trips to the toilet, and the individual general welfare of each child on Forster beach is the responsibility of the parent or guardian.
Nippers are NOT a child minding service.
You are welcome to bring your morning coffee down onto the beach. You will be expected to assist the age manager in the day’s activities. This may include some water based assistance where you may be required to get wet. If you are unable to assist in the water you may be given marshalling duties on the beach.
If you have more than one child in Nippers in different age groups please advise the age manager of your children’s groups so they know where to find you if required.
Our main objective of the season is to educate our Nippers through the Surf Ed Program. This covers the fundamentals of first aid, resuscitation, personal safety, signs and signals, understanding surf conditions and hazards. Also covered are surf sports such as surf swimming, board paddling, wading, sprinting, flags and relays. The Surf Ed lessons have been developed by Surf Life Saving Australia. Nippers throughout Australia use the same program.
We are a great family club and you will find lots of families involved throughout the club. Parents helping run the club and children learning skills and having fun on the beach. This is the way the club works and we hope that this season you can also assist in a role. It may be helping with the BBQ, assisting the age managers, water safety or doing patrols, it all helps.
Your child’s Age Manager or another member of the club, educated in the particular subject, will instruct your child.
Other activities offered to Nippers include:
Please remember that ALL members of the Forster SLSC are performing a role voluntarily because they enjoy what they do and are doing it for our children. They deserve the utmost respect and appreciation.
